CampusFeed is a free, student-run tool that lists public UNSW and USYD events. This page explains, in plain terms, what data it does and doesn't handle. We aim to collect as little as possible.

The short version

  • Accounts are optional. You can use everything as a guest — your lists then stay on your own device and we never see them.
  • If you sign in with Google, we store your email, name and profile picture (from Google) plus the preferences you choose— nothing else, and never your password (we don't have one).
  • Notifications are opt-in and store an anonymous browser push token you can remove any time.
  • We don't sell data or run advertising trackers.
  • You can delete your account yourself in Settings — everything tied to it is removed immediately.

If you use CampusFeed as a guest

Your “Want to go” and “Not interested” lists, theme, feed style and filter preferences are saved in your browser's local storage. They stay on your device, are not sent to us, and are cleared if you clear your browser data or use the “clear lists” option in Settings.

If you create an account (Sign in with Google)

  • What we receive from Google: your email address, display name and profile picture. We request nothing else (no contacts, no calendar, no Drive). We never see or store a password — authentication happens entirely with Google.
  • What we store against your account: the preferences you pick in onboarding or Settings (university, event types, days, followed societies, feed style) and your saved / hidden event lists, so they sync across your devices.
  • What it's used for: personalising your feed and, if you turn them on, your notifications. Nothing is shared with third parties or other users.
  • Deleting it:Settings → Delete account removes your account and every row tied to it, immediately and permanently. You can also revoke CampusFeed's access in your Google account settings.

Push notifications (opt-in)

If you turn on notifications, your browser gives us an anonymous “push endpoint” for this device plus the notification filters you choose (societies, event types, days). It isn't tied to your name or email. Turning notifications off in Settings, or blocking them in your browser, removes it.

Public event and society information

We store details of university events and society pages gathered from public sources (official calendars, club platforms, public Instagram posts). This is not your personal data. Organisers can ask for corrections or removal via the contact below.

Analytics

If you sign in, we use a product analytics tool (PostHog) tied to your account so we can understand how the app is actually used — page visits, how long you spend in a session, and actions like saving or hiding an event, following a society, or finishing onboarding. This is linked to your account (email + account ID), not to your name otherwise, and is used only to improve the app — never sold, never shared, no advertising. Guests are not tracked this way at all — nothing loads unless you sign in. We do not use screen or session recording. This data is hosted on PostHog's servers (United States).

Where data is held

Account data and preferences are stored with Supabase (our database provider) in their Sydney, Australia region; the site is served by Vercel, which may use servers outside Australia. We keep only what's described above, for as long as you keep your account (or your push subscription remains active).

Your rights and choices

  • Use the app as a guest — no account data exists at all.
  • Clear your on-device lists any time from Settings, or by clearing browser storage.
  • Turn notifications off to remove your push subscription.
  • Delete your account yourself in Settings, instantly.
  • Email us to access, correct, or delete anything we hold about you: freefeeds.app@gmail.com. We'll also notify affected users at their account email if a data breach ever occurs.
